Nail biting is no good! Stop it now before it is too late!
Nail biting is commonly found in children. Most of the time it is not serious to a certain degree! Although, it usually does not cause any problems if you bite your nails once a while. Some children tend to bite more than they should. As parents, we need to keep in mind biting nails can cause a bacterial infection, warts around the nail bed, bleeding leading to permanent damage to the nail itself!
How can you stop nail biting?
Most often, children bite their nails because of stress or out of boredom! If these cases, try to stay away from what causes your child to stress, such as homework for example, or chaos among the family lifestyle. Some children will bite nails while watching TV. Just make sure to remind them not to do it. Give them some popcorn to distract them from this habit. The key here is to address and stop it when you see it. Do not ignore it!
From time to time, children tend to bite their nails because they are too long, not cut properly, not buffed properly. This might bother some children. Help your child by making sure to cut his/her nails as needed (usually once a week). Buff the nails as needed so they are not sharp to the feel.
There are products out there to help you with this problem as well. For example, Orly No Bite is a bitter nail polish. Not only it is bitter, it also enhances the nail growth. Try it and good luck.
